40 Broken

...scary? Me?

.I want to hold you high and steal your pain.

Hazel eyes. More green than anything else. Sometimes hints of brown, grey, orange. Orange, heh.  Wrinkling my nose and squinting my eyes.  Hah. Now that's just more silly than scary.  A soft sigh, eyebrows furrowing in frustration.  It isn't something you could see on the surface.  No, not at all.

My brown-eyed knight, come save me.  Why do I frighten you?  Follow my song and don't be afraid. I need you by my side.  I'm hardly a damsel in distress but my heart aches at the thought of a time when things were far from perfect and I--

I suppose I can understand why you would be afraid.  And I lied. Lied when I said that I wasn't.  Of course I am!  But the thought of your arms wrapped around me disrupts my fears and calms my pounding heart into a flutter.  The feel of your lips on mine..

Please stay with me, my dark wanderer.  Rest your tired head against my heart and hear the quiet song that I am singing for you.  Let my song intertwine with yours into a melody, sweet and sad and unknown but never lonely. Not when I am with you.

The mirror doesn't show what you are afraid of.  These eyes are vulnerable and deep, holding pain and joy and fears of my own.  It isn't the thought of not feeling your skin against mine or not getting lost in your gaze that scares me.  No...it's the thought of never feeling your skin against mine or never getting lost in your gaze again that causes my blood to run cold.
